Customer Reviews
“Great idea for a suction bike rack. I’ve always been a bit skeptical about the suction bike racks, thinking that what if cups start to lose pressure and you won’t notice until it’s too late and your expensive bike is unders some other vehicle behind you, not to mention your car will likely get damanged…just a whole nightmare. This device solves that problem, at least for me, because you can monitor and get an alert if one of the three front cups loses pressure. It is easy to remove and compact, so that you can leave it inside of the car while you go riding. Great product and even better idea! It is precey though. I hope they can lower the price to make appealing to more riders.”

Customer Reviews
“Giving it 5 stars because it’s 100% functional, feels rock solid, my bike doesn’t move at all over bumps, on the highway etc. And it’s so cheap that no other bike rack comes close to the value you get with this. The only thing I don’t like about it, is the nylon straps are very low quality, I’m sure they will degrade quickly, especially if you get caught in the weather often. However, with the way it’s designed, it would be very easy to replace the straps with better ones if/when that time comes.Other than that, it’s very easy to use, folds up compact and takes up very little space in my trunk. It’s lightweight and easy to mount by yourself. The straps are plenty long enough for any car. The instructions are very clear and give you different options for mounting depending on how your car is built.”

“This is a very strong excellent bike rack well made without cutting any corners on the quality of the materials. It is a design that has been a standard for fifty years. Thousands are in use. ELECTRIC BIKES ARE HEAVIER, SO CAREFULLY OBSERVE THE WEIGHT SPECIFICATION FOR THE 2, 3 OR 4 BIKE CARRIERS. It can easily be put on & removed from almost any car, unlike racks that need to be attached to a trailer mount. This is my second rack from “Allen” after forty years I retired the first one due to old age. It was still so stable that I could jerk the bike rack and shake the car!!! This bike rack is the classic design and exceptionally well built …. BUY THIS RACK”

“This rack is a lifesaver! I was hesitant because of the low price, but it holds my bike super securely. I’ve driven for hours with it, and it hasn’t budged. It’s a bit fiddly to get the straps just right on my SUV, but once it’s on, it’s rock solid. Great value!”

Customer Reviews
“I had to update my review for this bike rack because of the outstanding customer service. As soon as they saw my review with the problems I had, they contacted me. They ended up giving me a full refund. You really can’t fault them for their follow-through and good support. That said, while the rack sort of works for me to transport one bike, I still don’t like the way it attaches to my vehicle hitch with a locking bolt. They were willing to replace the damaged second bike rack piece, but I ended up just getting the refund. If folks understand bike racks, I suspect they won’t have the issues I had (plus I’m just old and not as flexible as I used to be so everything is a little more difficult). I really think for most folks, this will be a 5-star item. It just wasn’t the right solution for me.—-Below is my first review. I left it intact because some of the points are ones which others may find helpful.—–Where do I start. I’m not an expert and I don’t know the right words for all the parts so forgive me, but… This bike rack simply isn’t very good. Here are the problems I ran into:- The directions for assembly leave a lot to be desired. They are basically very tiny diagrams with dotted lines that you can barely read. Some of the lines are unclear as to whether a part goes on the inside or outside of the piece in question. Most of all, we had to take the assembly apart and redo where the rack itself is attached to the shank (or whatever you call the piece that fits into the hitch on my vehicle) because there was nothing indicated on the directions about how to attach that. Note: You actually put the two plastic washers on the inside and have someone kind of hold those while slipping the rack’s shank into that socket and try not to crush the person’s fingertips while they are trying to hold the plastic washers in place. The bolt then goes through the shank with the tongue of the rack inserted, hoopking it all together. That way, the bolt serves as a pivot point letting you either have the rack straight (as when carrying a bike) or tilted up/down for access to the back door.–I can only use the rack for one bike because one of the pieces that hold a tire was slightly warped at the factory. The part warped is the part that attaches to the rack so there was absolutely no way to attach it to the strut that holds all of those pieces horizontally (parallel to the ground). So I have a 1 bike rack.–The bolt that attaches the whole thing to the hitch on my vehicle is not standard. It’s a horrible screw thing with a lock at the end. The lock is incredibly cheesy and I’m afraid it’s going to break, leaving me with no way to unscrew the bolt and remove the rack. I intend to have my husband drill out that screw hold so that I can use a standard bolt. For security, I’ll just run a locking cable through my bike to the actual hitch attached to my vehicle.–The locks on the piece of the rack that slides up/down to hold the top of the bike against the rack is even more cheesey than the lock on the retaining bolt. In fact, we could barely make it work to actually install the pieces. So I don’t use the lock at all because if it breaks while that piece is in place, I’ll never get my bike off that rack. I can’t believe how wobbly and barely functional that lock was when new. It was horrible. On the bright side, the rack, once installed and with only one bike on it is fairly sturdy and doesn’t rattle. But it juts way out from my vehicle and I mean way out, so I have to be super careful when backing up because I can’t really see (even with the backup camera) exactly how far behind me that rack juts out. For better or worse, it keeps my bike about a foot away from my car.Overall, I really regret buying this rack. It was a pain to put together and it’s very difficult to install and remove. It doesn’t use a standard bolt and the locks are highly likely to break leaving you with a rack stuck on your vehicle, perhaps even with your bike attached, and no way to remove either your bike or the rack. If they had used a standard bolt and no lock on the top bike support mechanism, it would have been a lot better. If I liked the rack more, I’d go through the trouble of contacting customer support and trying to prove to them that the tire holder’s connection is warped so it can’t be attached to hold a second bike–but it’s just not worth the effort to me considering how much I dislike this rack already.”
– Jessica T.
“Used this bike rack for a family trip and was really impressed with the quality. The build feels strong and secure, and it kept the bikes steady even on long drives. Installation was manageable, and it folds away nicely when not in use. Excellent value for the price — highly recommend!”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Trunk Bike Racks
Essential Factors We Consider
When choosing the best trunk bike rack, we look at several key elements to ensure you get a product that’s safe, reliable, and convenient. First and foremost is security – how well does it hold your bike(s) in place? This involves the quality of the straps, the stability of the frame, and how securely it attaches to your car. Next, we evaluate ease of installation and removal. Nobody wants to spend ages wrestling with a rack, especially when heading out for a ride. Compatibility with your specific vehicle is also crucial; a rack that fits one car might not fit another perfectly. Finally, we consider the carrying capacity and the overall durability of the materials used, ensuring it can handle the weight of your bikes and withstand various weather conditions. For those interested in the latest biking tech, we also look at innovations like smart features, similar to those found in some best bike computer with smartphone integration.
Budget Planning
Trunk bike racks come in a wide range of prices, generally reflecting their carrying capacity, build materials, and features. Basic models that can hold one or two bikes are typically the most affordable, often falling into the best budget mountain bike for beginners category. Racks that can carry three or four bikes, or those with advanced features like the suction technology seen in some models, will naturally cost more. Consider how often you’ll use the rack and the type of bikes you’ll be carrying. For occasional use with lighter bikes, a budget-friendly option might suffice. If you’re hauling multiple road bikes, perhaps seeking the best best road bike under 1000, or heavy e-bikes, investing in a more robust and feature-rich rack is advisable.
Final Thoughts
Selecting the right trunk bike rack boils down to understanding your needs. Whether you prioritize carrying capacity, advanced security features, or a budget-friendly solution, there’s a rack out there for you. Remember to always check your vehicle’s compatibility and follow the installation instructions carefully. A well-chosen trunk rack will significantly enhance your cycling adventures by making transportation stress-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if a trunk bike rack will fit my car?
A: Most trunk bike racks come with compatibility guides. It’s essential to check the manufacturer’s website or product description for a list of compatible vehicles. Factors like trunk lid shape, spoiler presence, and vehicle material play a role. Always verify before purchasing.
Q: Are trunk bike racks safe for my car’s paint?
A: Most modern trunk racks are designed with protective padding (rubber or foam) to minimize the risk of scratching your car’s paint. However, it’s crucial to ensure the rack is installed correctly and that any straps are not rubbing directly against the paintwork. Keeping the rack and your car clean can also help prevent abrasions.
Q: Can I use a trunk bike rack with an electric bike?
A: While some trunk racks might accommodate lighter e-bikes, they are generally not recommended for heavier electric bikes. E-bikes often exceed the weight capacity of typical trunk racks. For e-bikes, a platform hitch rack or a heavy-duty roof rack is usually a more suitable and safer option.
Q: How many bikes can a trunk bike rack typically hold?
A: Trunk bike racks commonly come in configurations for 1, 2, 3, or 4 bikes. The number of bikes a rack can hold is limited by its structural integrity and the distribution of weight. Always check the maximum weight capacity and the number of bikes the specific model is rated for.
Q: Do I need any special tools to install a trunk bike rack?
A: Most trunk bike racks are designed for tool-free installation, relying on adjustable straps and locking mechanisms. However, it’s always a good idea to have basic tools like a measuring tape or a level on hand, just in case, and to consult the manual for precise fitting.
Choosing the best trunk bike rack can truly transform how you travel with your bikes. From innovative suction mounts to classic strap systems, there’s a solution to fit most needs and budgets. By considering the factors we’ve outlined and checking for compatibility with your vehicle, you can confidently select a rack that will provide secure, convenient, and hassle-free bike transport for all your adventures. Happy trails!
