Customer Reviews

“Compared to the two other full face helmets I have this one is the most comfortable. The visor is probably the flimsiest piece but the rest of the helmet is solid and feels like it’s premium construction. It fits my face firmly and finally like I wish the previous two would. Tight on my cheeks but not too tight. Airflow is noticeable through the face mask over a more solid configuration I have. ILM makes good stuff usually for moto and bike needs so combined with the noticeably durable build quality here I think this is as safe as it gets in this price range. For comfort and safety it’s my new favorite. It’s valued a little less than I’d expect for this quality making it an excellent value. The included goggles are neutral and look slick when used with the helmet. Also good quality and fits my face well. It’s a great kit for an E-bike or BMX full face and I can recommend it.”

Customer Review: Anonymous

“Gotten a bit nervous over the year riding my e-bike which tops out at 28MPH so I decided that it is time to get a full-face helmet to help protect me in case I really wipe out on the bike.I’ve ridden with this helmet on for a few hours now and love it. It’s lightweight, fits well (got an XL for my huge noggin) and doesn’t get too hot. Also, it still offers enough visibility to be able to easily see traffic while riding.I’m really happy with my purchase even though I may look like a nut wearing this full face helmet on the bike trails. 🤣”

Customer Reviews

“The media could not be loaded. All e-bike users look no further, this is the helmet for you!! I recently bought this helmet and after using it for about a month, I can definitely say this is a product worth buying. The price might seem steep, but this is one of the only bike helmets out there right now certified for class 3 e-bike speeds of up to 28mph. Regular bike helmets are only good for 15 mph speeds, so you’re basically paying for double the protection with this helmet. You also get added features that most helmets don’t come with, like front and rear lights for visibility at night, a rear tightening mechanism for a more secure fit, a removable visor to keep the sun out your eyes, and a very well made magnetic latch for easy attachment and removal. The bike also has great ventilation which kept me cool and less sweaty during those hotter days.Another great thing about this helmet is how comfortable it is to wear. There’s soft padding on the inside so you don’t feel the hard surface squeezing your head like other helmets. The padding is also removable for washing which is very convenient, especially if you sweat a lot. My favorite thing about the helmet though, and one of the main reasons I bought it, was how light it was. This helmet weighs less than a pound!! When riding with it, I hardly ever feel like I’m even wearing a helmet, which is surprising given how much protection its supposed to offer. If you look at something with similar protection like a motorcycle helmet, those are bulky and can weigh anywhere from 5-8 pounds. When riding with something that heavy on your head, you definitely feel that weight, and it isn’t as comfortable. The look of the helmet is also pretty modern and stylish. It makes me feel more inclined to wear it since it doesn’t make my head look big or goofy whenever I go out.Overall though, this bike helmet is a very good buy. I couldn’t find a single complaint to give. Not only are you paying for solid protection, but you’re also getting a high quality product made from high quality materials. Nothing on this helmet feels cheap or out of place for its price, you’re for sure getting what you payed for and will not regret getting this helmet. There’s also a sale going on right now, so it’s a perfect time to get it if you’re worried about the price. The last thing I’ll touch on though is the customer service and this company as a whole. I’ve genuinely never met a company so dedicated and willing to accommodate its customers like this company has done. When I first got my helmet, it didn’t fit my head quite right so I got into contact with the company and they helped me out tremendously!! The owner of the company, Benjamin, got back to me and offered to replace my helmet free of charge for one of their unreleased X-large versions!! This was honestly very surprising to me and I was super grateful for Bens help. He updated me throughout the whole process and made sure everything was perfect when it arrived, which it was. So if any of you end up having a problem with your helmets or yours ends up getting broken in an accident, make sure to hit up their customer service. They’re great and will definitely help you the best they can. Happy and safe riding everyone, hope you enjoy the helmet as much as me.”

“My husband had decided that we needed e-bikes. So I started to research the best helmets for an e-bike. I ordered this helmet because it has the NTA8776 rating and it has both a front light and a back light for safety. When my husband received the helmet he was pleasantly surprised by the helmet. He loved the fit, look and he was surprised how light it felt on his head. He said he forgot he even had the helmet on… and that is saying a lot esp. since our bike rides are in the mid morning during the Arizona summer. He has even gotten compliments on his helmet as he was riding around. He tells everyone they should get this helmet and he even tells the local bike shops that they should carry this helmet. He loved his helmet so much, I wanted to get one for myself but my head size is too small for the helmet they currently sell. I reached out to Xnito to find out when they would be releasing the smaller size helmets. The customer service is amazing. These days I have found customer service is seriously lacking with most companies but not this one. They actually care about their customers and encourage feedback. I heard back from someone within a couple hours and they worked hard to get me a smaller size helmet before they are actually available to everyone because I am not that good of a bike rider and I didn’t want to take any chances getting hurt. They kept in contact with me through the whole ordering and receiving of the helmet. They also followed up to make sure everything was good.I have the new small size helmet and it has the magnetic buckle which is pretty cool. It took me a few minutes to figure it out but I’ve got it now. The new helmets also have the type c charging cable. To me this doesn’t really matter, but I know that it important to a lot of people. This is a great helmet. The smaller size helmets will be available soon, I do believe. Now, I haven’t had any accidents to be able to say how it holds up and I hope I never do, but this helmet covers all the important parts of our heads and I do “feel” safer having it on. They also have an accident replacement policy for the helmet if by chance you do get into an accident.Give this helmet a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and glad you did.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Full Face Mountain Bike Helmets

Essential Factors We Consider

When selecting the best full face mountain bike helmets, we prioritize safety certifications above all else. Standards like CPSC, ASTM F1447, and EN 1078 are non-negotiable. Beyond safety, we look at the construction materials (like EPS foam and MIPS technology for rotational impact absorption), ventilation systems to keep you cool, and the fit and comfort features, such as adjustable retention systems and padding. The durability of the shell and chin bar is also critical, as is the weight, as no one wants a helmet that feels like a brick on their head. We also consider features like adjustable visors and compatibility with goggles.

Budget Planning

Full face mountain bike helmets can range from under $100 to over $400. For budget-conscious riders, models like the TSG Sentinel offer excellent value without skimping on essential safety. Mid-range options, such as the Mongoose Title or ILM HT58, provide a great balance of features, protection, and price. High-end helmets often incorporate advanced materials, lighter weights, and more sophisticated ventilation and safety systems like MIPS. Consider what type of riding you’ll be doing most often to determine the level of protection and features you truly need, and then find the best option within your budget. Remember, your head is worth the investment.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right full face mountain bike helmet is a critical decision for any serious rider. Whether you’re tackling downhill descents or navigating challenging enduro stages, the protection offered by these helmets is invaluable. We’ve highlighted some of the top contenders, each offering a unique blend of safety, comfort, and performance. Always ensure the helmet fits properly and meets the necessary safety standards for your type of riding. If you’re unsure about the difference between hardtail and full suspension mountain bikes and how helmet choice might factor in, it’s worth exploring those distinctions to better understand your riding needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the most important safety feature in a full face mountain bike helmet?

A: The most critical safety feature is compliance with recognized safety standards, such as CPSC and ASTM F1447. Additionally, features like MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) can significantly reduce rotational forces during impacts, offering an extra layer of protection.

Q: How should a full face mountain bike helmet fit?

A: A full face helmet should feel snug all around your head without any pressure points. The cheek pads should make firm contact with your cheeks, and the helmet should not move excessively when you shake your head. Ensure the chin bar is comfortable and doesn’t impede breathing or vision.

Q: Do I really need a full face helmet for mountain biking?

A: For casual trail riding, a regular mountain bike helmet might suffice. However, for aggressive riding disciplines like downhill, enduro, or even challenging all-mountain trails, a full face helmet is highly recommended due to the increased risk of facial and chin impacts.

Q: How often should I replace my full face mountain bike helmet?

A: Helmets should be replaced after any significant impact, even if no visible damage is apparent. Generally, it’s recommended to replace a helmet every 3-5 years, as materials can degrade over time due to sweat, UV exposure, and general wear and tear.

Q: Are full face helmets too hot for riding?

A: While full face helmets offer more coverage, modern designs incorporate extensive ventilation systems to manage heat. Models with numerous vents, internal channeling, and breathable padding are designed to keep you as cool as possible during your rides. If you are concerned about heat, consider a helmet with a higher vent count.

In conclusion, investing in a quality full face mountain bike helmet is one of the best decisions you can make for your safety and confidence on the trails. We’ve presented a range of excellent options, from budget-friendly choices to premium picks, all designed to protect you on your adventures. Explore these recommendations, consider your riding style and budget, and gear up for your next ride with the best protection possible. Happy trails!
