Customer Reviews

“Love love love this scooter. I got the light green color air tire version and the gray hard wheel model with the hand brake. Ended up returning the hard wheel one because the ride is so much better on the tire. Bumpy and uneven terrain is still rideable and quiet. No rattle. The hand brake works great not the best but so much better than only having the foot brake. I especially love the foot open and close latch. It so genius and makes closing and opening the scooter extremely simple and fast. I do have trouble opening it back up sometimes but i think it is a genius design. However i do wonder how safe this design is. I am so use to the pull latches and it doesn’t take much to understand how they work so i am hoping my apprehension is unwarranted because i absolutely love the foot press and release situation. I view this a step up from the razor air scooter which i used before and love. However it was missing a handbrake. Speaking of difference between the two the razor air tire is wider and this scooter tire is pretty narrow looking which I thought would be a unstable but isnt. The tire valve is very easy to reach on this onewhich is near impossible of the razor . The deck is a bit higher comapred to the razor that his supee low. Finally some few nitpicks – I don’t like how the handbrake wire goes through the metal bar. I don’t know how easy it would be to find a tire replacements and i wish this company sold their tires as a replacement.” – Customer Review

“Assembly can be tricky, particularlybon the wheels where there is a loose inner cylindrical tube that the long screw metal part has to be fed through from one side through to the other. It jiggles around and is very hard to balance the circle ends to align properly with the round openings the long screw goes in and out of on both sides. The look is nice, brake works decently (so far) though the brake wire has excess tubing up top near handle bars/brake which is massively and annoyingly in the way. Also, for the price of this scooter the wheels don’t seem to hold up to too much weight. If your child weighs over 90+ lbs, it seems the wheels/tires (even when properly inflated) don’t hold up weight very well and just flatten down while riding and scooter doesn’t go very well. I’d imagine the average boy, even girl pre teens these days are easily 90+ lbs so I’d definitely take that into consideration. If it weren’t for the crappy tires, which I’m a little sketchy about so far, and the excess brake tubing hanging loosely around the handlebars (which could also be a hazard if their hands get caught in it), I would’ve given this 5 stars, though its only been ridden indoors since its still snowy and icy out. Time will tell and will update if further issues arise- particularly with the tires.” – Customer Review

Complete Buying Guide for Best E Scooter For Nyc

Essential Factors We Consider

When selecting the best e scooter for NYC, we dive deep into what truly matters for urban riders. We look at tire type and size – larger, pneumatic tires are a godsend for New York’s notoriously uneven streets, offering a smoother, safer ride and better shock absorption. Motor power and battery range are crucial; you need enough oomph to tackle bridges and hills, and a battery that lasts your entire commute. Braking systems are a non-negotiable safety feature; we prioritize scooters with reliable, responsive brakes. Finally, portability and durability are key. A scooter that’s easy to fold, carry, and store will make your life much simpler, and it needs to withstand the daily grind of city use. We also consider legal compliance to ensure you’re riding within the city’s regulations.

Budget Planning

The price of electric scooters can vary wildly, from budget-friendly options to premium models. For NYC commuting, it’s wise to set a realistic budget. While a cheaper scooter might seem appealing, investing a bit more in a model with better tires, a stronger motor, and a more robust frame can save you money and hassle in the long run. Consider the total cost of ownership, including potential maintenance. If you’re on a tighter budget, a high-quality non-electric scooter like the Envy COLT Trick Scooter or the Nattork Foldable Kick Scooter can still provide an efficient and fun way to get around for shorter trips.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right scooter for NYC is about finding that sweet spot between performance, safety, portability, and value. Whether you opt for a powerful electric scooter or a durable kick scooter, making an informed decision will significantly enhance your urban mobility experience. Always remember to wear appropriate safety gear, like a good helmet, and familiarize yourself with local traffic laws.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are electric scooters legal in NYC?

A: Yes, electric scooters (e-scooters) are legal to ride in New York City, provided they meet certain specifications. They are classified as Class 2 e-scooters, meaning they must have a top speed of 20 mph and a motor no more than 750 watts. They are allowed on roads and bike lanes, but not on sidewalks. For more details on NYC scooter laws, it’s always best to check the latest official city regulations.

Q: What kind of tires are best for NYC scooters?

A: For NYC’s rough streets, pneumatic (air-filled) tires are generally best. They offer superior shock absorption and a smoother ride compared to solid rubber tires. Larger tire diameters (8 inches or more) also help in rolling over cracks and potholes more easily.

Q: How much range do I need for a NYC commute?

A: For most daily commutes within NYC, a range of 15-25 miles is usually sufficient. However, if you plan on longer joyrides, errands, or need a buffer for unexpected detours, opting for a scooter with 30+ miles of range is recommended. Factors like rider weight, terrain, and speed will affect actual range.

Q: Can I use my scooter on the subway?

A: Generally, foldable electric scooters are allowed on the NYC subway. However, rules can change, and it’s best to ensure your scooter is compact and folded before boarding. Non-electric scooters are also typically allowed. Always check the MTA’s current policy.

Q: What safety gear is essential for riding in NYC?

A: A certified helmet is the most crucial piece of safety gear. Other recommended items include reflective clothing or accessories, especially if riding at dawn or dusk, and gloves for better grip and protection in case of a fall. Ensure your scooter has working lights and reflectors.

Choosing the best e scooter for NYC is a game-changer for urban commuting, offering freedom and efficiency. Whether you prioritize speed, range, comfort, or portability, there’s a scooter out there for you. Take your time, consider your daily routes, and make sure you’re equipped with the right gear and knowledge to navigate the city safely and legally. Happy riding!
