Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Purchased this on 8-13-18. Very Nice, solidly built two bike rack holds up to 70lbs. The description is not clear; however; This bike rack (Model 302DN) is only made for the 1994-2018 Jeep Wranglers (JK), (not the 2018 JL as clearly stated), 2002-2009 Jeep Liberty’s and 1997-2006 Honda CRV’s which is on the back of the retail packaging. The Rack is very well built and easy assembly (using only a 7/16 driver, socket or wrench). It is highly recommend that you take your time inserting the set-up pins. They will scratch the powder coat badly (as seen in one of my pics) AND they can pinch your fingers. I recommend hold the rack against your chest firmly to insert. I did the other side this way and not scratch. It’s a great rack for the price!! Very well built and will works well. I will probably use some bungy cords and a lashing strap just to be safe, which I have done before in the past. Overkill is better than dropping your expensive bikes at 60mph. I hope this review is helpful for future buyers.
Customer Review: This rack was simple to put together and install. It fit right over the spare tire and latched under the door easily. The bikes mounted easily, it took me a try it two to get them on right. I was nervous about it on the 200 mile drive, constantly looking. I just knew the bikes were gonna fly off. They didn’t, and I didn’t hardly looked at them on the way home. They were safe and sound. And it’s a reasonable price to boot. I would recommend this.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I moved from Florida back to Virginia and needed a way to get my bike back on my Jeep. I have 35″ thick tread tires and grabbed this the day before I left hoping it would work. It fit over my thick tire perfectly, stuck in place like a charm and my bike was solid the entire 12 hour drive! I did use extra bungies to make sure the tires and handlbars stayed in place, but was super impressed with how quick the install was and how great it worked.
Customer Review: We got this bike rack to use on our 2008 Toyota RAV4, to take our bikes to Florida on an 800 mile train trip with a 5 hour drive continuing afterward. I read a lot of reviews before I decided on the “premium” version for a few dollars more—primarily because I wanted the convenience of the rubber straps that are easier to strap the bike down (and remove) rather than the nylon straps that you must thread through the plastic clips that come with the lower-priced rack.Overall, this is a very sturdy bike rack, and it worked very well for our trip.Read on for a few things that disappointed me:The instructions are clear enough, but I did have to take a couple of extra minutes to figure out how to attach the lower bar to the rack. You need two 7/16 wrenches/ratchets to do that. I took a couple of close-up photos to show you which way it goes. Even after the couple of extra minutes to read the instructions a couple of times, I still put that lower bar on backward and had to remove it and redo-it.The instructions say to remove any outer cover off your tire before installing the bike rack because you might damage that cover. The downside of that is that we either need to leave that tire cover at home or make room for it inside the (packed) car. I didn’t realize that before I bought the bike rack.I was disappointed that the bike rack straps would not fasten securely to the bottom of the our RAV4 back door so that we could leave the rack in place and still open/close the door. But it would fasten securely only to the bottom of the bumper. It meant we had to make sure we were totally finished packing the car before we put the rack on (and that we would not need to access the back of the packed car during the trip)—once on, there’s no more opening and closing that back door.It took us a couple of trials to get the bikes on just right. We have two female bikes—since they have sloped bars, they worked best with the top bar in one cradle and the bottom bar in the other—that way, the bike was more level on the rack. The instructions say to install the second bike in the opposite direction and then use some additional straps to keep the front wheels fixed. I used 3 short bungee cords for that.We were NOT able to operate the back windshield wiper with this bike rack on, because one of the bike rack’s upper support bars was in the way of the wiper. We tested that before we started driving, so knew not to turn the back wiper on.Overall, this is a terrific bike rack. It is very sturdy, does the job well, and when mounted correctly, the bikes don’t move at all.I write honest reviews to help others make informed purchases because I read reviews myself and appreciate how helpful they can be. I hope that my review helped you!

Complete Buying Guide for Best E Bike Carrier For Jeep Wrangler
Essential Factors We Consider
When picking out the best e-bike carrier for your Jeep Wrangler, we look at a few key things. First, durability is crucial – your carrier needs to withstand off-road adventures and varying weather. We also consider the weight capacity, as e-bikes are significantly heavier than standard bikes. Ease of installation and use is another big one; you don’t want to spend ages fumbling with mounts. Finally, bike security is paramount – ensuring your valuable e-bikes are locked down and won’t shift during transit is non-negotiable. For those looking for specific e-bike features, understanding best electric bike for carrying passengers can also inform your carrier choice.
Budget Planning
E-bike carriers can range from budget-friendly spare tire mounts to more premium hitch-mounted systems. For a Jeep Wrangler, spare tire racks are often more economical and don’t require a hitch receiver. Hitch racks, while typically more expensive, often offer higher weight capacities and more advanced features like tilting mechanisms and ramps, which are invaluable for heavy e-bikes. Consider your budget alongside the features you absolutely need. If you’re just starting out, a solid best budget mountain bike for beginners can be a good starting point, but for e-bikes, investing a bit more is often wise.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right e-bike carrier for your Jeep Wrangler ultimately depends on your specific needs, your Jeep’s setup (hitch receiver or spare tire), and your budget. Prioritize safety, capacity, and ease of use to ensure your biking adventures start smoothly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will any e-bike carrier fit my Jeep Wrangler?
A: Not all carriers will fit all Jeep Wranglers. Spare tire carriers need to be compatible with your spare tire size and mounting points. Hitch carriers require a compatible hitch receiver size (usually 2-inch). Always check the product specifications for vehicle compatibility.
Q: How much weight can an e-bike carrier hold?
A: E-bike carriers typically have higher weight capacities than standard bike carriers, often ranging from 60-75 lbs per bike, totaling 120-150 lbs. Always check the manufacturer’s stated weight limit to ensure it can safely support your e-bikes.
Q: Do I need a special carrier for fat tire e-bikes?
A: Yes, fat tire e-bikes have much wider tires, so you’ll need a carrier specifically designed to accommodate them. Many modern e-bike carriers are fat tire compatible or offer adapters.
Q: What’s the difference between spare tire and hitch mount carriers for a Jeep Wrangler?
A: Spare tire carriers mount to your Jeep’s rear spare tire, offering a more budget-friendly option and not requiring a hitch. Hitch mount carriers attach to a hitch receiver and generally offer more stability, higher weight capacities, and features like tilting for cargo access.
Q: Are e-bike carriers secure enough for rough terrain?
A: High-quality e-bike carriers, especially hitch-mounted ones, are designed to be very secure. Look for features like anti-wobble mechanisms and robust locking systems to ensure your bikes stay put, even on bumpy trails.
