Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “For reference: I have a 23 inch large noggin. Kind of “long headed” with low ears. This helmet in “Large” fits me well, with a little slack on the sides/temples (long headed), with the rear adjuster just barely tightened down a click or two. The strap’s “ear V” can be adjusted up/down, forward/back at the bottom of the “V” so it does not intrude on your ear. The chin strap is padded near the buckle and the magnetic pull thingy works really well, very/quick easy to get off. It does have an elastic “tie-down” on the back for your goggles, wads of money, band-aids, clean underwear, or whatever use you can find for that. Perhaps a little sign that says, “If you can read this, BACK OFF!” The visor is ~twice as long as most I’ve seen, so it might actually serve a purpose unlike the tiny 1 inch Donald Duck bills on most of them. It attaches with two hand screws on either side and a snap-in peg at the center. The front vents have a “bug net” built into them, a nice “premium” touch. I went to WallyWorld and looked at helmets by Ozark Trail, Schwinn, Bell, and Mongoose, ranging from $19-$49 and every one of them was worse than this helmet as far as fit and the padding inside. This Favoto helmet has decent, wide pads that go all the way around to the back, sides, and even on the adjuster at the rear. For the price this one seems quite good. I really can’t think of anything to complain about. Went for a few rides with it on now and comfort is good. I more or less forgot it was on. No crashes to report…yet.”
Customer Review: “This is a great helmet! It’s adjustable and very comfortable. I have used it many times while riding my mountain bike. I love the color and the price was reasonable.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Let me start off by saying that I’ve been roaming through various models of different brands, and snowballing through all the reviews ultimately choosing this brain bucket. The Giro Fixture 2 sits nice and low around my ears covering the back of my head entirely and the adjustment dial in the back provides a good range to make it snug, and comfortably I might add, it is super lightweight, remarkably comfortable (though a cushion for the chin strap would be a welcome addition), and it channels air through the vents efficiently keeping me and my receding hairline nearly sweat free. The clasps are easily adjusted and it boasts a lovely aerodynamic profile that on a solo ride, I forget that it’s on, even after a few hours in. As far as shading goes, I wear sunglasses every single day ride, but it does help provide some coverage. Other reviewers have posted the damages sustained on a spill and I have confidence that In My commutes, what brain cells I have left are in good hands. In other words. This is a solid all arounder that’s good enough for who it’s for, and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.”
Customer Review: “Took a chance on this helmet during Black Friday, and bought it for my girlfriend. She says it’s light but feels high quality, and she feels safe and confident riding on the road while wearing it. She really likes the blue color, and how easy it is to dial in the fit. Plus, it’s designed to work well and be comfortable with a ponytail, so she likes that as well. The chin strap is easy to adjust, and now that she has it set how she likes it she barely notices the helmet when it’s on. I explained MIPS to her as I’m familiar because of motorcycle helmets, and she likes that safety feature a lot. Finally, she loves that it has a visor, and says it’s placed perfectly to block out the sun but not affect visibility.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the most important safety feature in a mountain bike helmet?
A: The most important safety feature is the helmet’s ability to absorb and dissipate impact energy. This is achieved through the combination of an outer shell and an inner EPS foam liner. For angled impacts, technologies like MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) are also highly beneficial.
Q: How do I know if a budget mountain bike helmet will be protective enough?
A: Look for helmets that are certified by safety organizations like CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) in the US, CE EN1078 in Europe, or equivalent standards in other regions. These certifications indicate that the helmet has passed rigorous testing for impact protection.
Q: Are cheaper mountain bike helmets less comfortable?
A: Not necessarily. While premium helmets might offer more advanced ventilation systems or lighter materials, many budget-friendly options provide excellent comfort through good padding, effective ventilation, and adjustable fit systems. Comfort is subjective, so trying on helmets or reading reviews about fit and ventilation is recommended.
Q: How often should I replace my mountain bike helmet?
A: It’s generally recommended to replace your helmet every 3-5 years, even if it hasn’t been in a crash. Over time, UV exposure, sweat, and general wear and tear can degrade the materials. Of course, if your helmet has been involved in a significant impact, it should be replaced immediately, as its protective capabilities will be compromised.
Q: Can I use a road bike helmet for mountain biking?
A: While a road bike helmet offers protection, mountain bike helmets are specifically designed for the demands of off-road riding. They typically offer more coverage, especially at the back and sides of the head, have a more robust visor to protect from sun and debris, and often feature more aggressive ventilation patterns suitable for slower, more technical riding.
Finding the best budget mountain bike helmet is all about balancing safety, comfort, and price. The options we’ve highlighted prove that you can get a reliable and feature-rich helmet without spending a fortune. Prioritize safety certifications, ensure a good fit, and consider the features that matter most to your riding style. Don’t let cost be a barrier to protection – gear up with confidence and hit the trails!
