Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Best helmet for the cost. Not to mention the safety of this helmet, it is really nice looking as well. The strap is magnetic so its easy to take on and off. Its full face which is extremely nice. Its true to size and medium fits me perfectly. Some might want more room so size up if that’s the case. This is a easy 5 star helmet and the shipping was extremely fast as well. Came in brand new box and condition was brand new with tags. Its perfect for my scootering needs! A+
Customer Review: My use case for this helmet is a little out of the ordinary, but it fits my needs perfectly. I do realize that this helmet is not DOT approved and is not made for motorcycle riding, but I’m using it for riding a scooter/moped around little city streets in Thailand where I commonly go 20-30 mph and almost never exceed 40 mph. I got the helmet based on other reviews stating that the padding allows glasses/sunglasses to fit, it has good ventilation, it’s light weight, and the strap clasp mechanism works well. All of those statements are true and the helmet feels plenty solid enough that I feel comfortable wearing it for my lower-speed riding. The build quality of this helmet is far superior to most helmets people commonly wear for riding there anyway and it’s better to have a helmet I’ll actually use versus one that I won’t want to deal with on a daily basis. My glasses are not narrow, I can fit my finger between the arm and my temple and the helmet padding does not push the arm into my head in any uncomfortable way. The “fiddle-lock” connection on the strap is great, it just magnetically clicks together and then you just give it a flick to the side with your finger and thumb to release it. I haven’t tried removing the padding yet, but I imagine it will be relatively easy based on the everything else about it when I’m ready to wash it.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Very light very comfortable i like the cam in the back of the helmet to snug it up making it feel like a custom fitted helmet.
Customer Review: Compared to the two other full face helmets I have this one is the most comfortable. The visor is probably the flimsiest piece but the rest of the helmet is solid and feels like it’s premium construction. It fits my face firmly and finally like I wish the previous two would. Tight on my cheeks but not too tight. Airflow is noticeable through the face mask over a more solid configuration I have. ILM makes good stuff usually for moto and bike needs so combined with the noticeably durable build quality here I think this is as safe as it gets in this price range. For comfort and safety it’s my new favorite. It’s valued a little less than I’d expect for this quality making it an excellent value. The included goggles are neutral and look slick when used with the helmet. Also good quality and fits my face well. It’s a great kit for an E-bike or BMX full face and I can recommend it.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Bought this for my teenage son for mountain biking and electric scooter riding. It fits just right. The ventilation is excellent, as advertised. I think the vents are what he is most impressed with. And it is very lightweight. Came in a box with a branded carrying sack. Thought the package had been stolen off my porch, and when I reached out for help the company was very responsive and helpful. Turns out a neighbor had grabbed it for me.
Customer Review: As a road and light trail cyclist, I generally the felt standard bike helmets gave me the protection I needed. It’s not often that I fell or road so crazy that I considering needing more. However, when purchased a fat bike to cure the winter blues and started riding on more technical trails that often had snow, ice, and trees tight on trails. After threading the needle between two trees enough times- where you are between between small two climbs and there is ice at the trough- it became apparent how easy it would be to lose traction and face plant into a tree trunk. This helmet has been great.Pros:It fits my large head almost perfectly. Most of the time even the XL is too small for me. This is snug but over bearing. It looks cool. Some people can pull off the cycling helmet look. I cannot. I look like a major dweeb. It’s warm. I was surprised that riding in 7 degree weather here how much warmer it made my entire body. I can wear fewer layers and thus don’t overheat, and I now longer feel the need to wear a face mask for windburn, ear muffs, or anything else on my head.Ski googles fit over it perfectly around the outside of the helmet and on your face for those snowy days. Accommodates sunglasses nice also. It’s almost like a motor cycle helmet in terms of the level of protection it adds. Not quite as much over kill, but you feel like your face and head are very well protected. It looks like the liner comes out for cleaning, since you will sweat a bit with it on.The price was very reasonable. I have close to this and more for most of my bike helmets that aren’t nearly as durable or near the quality of this.Cons:The only con I can come up with so far is that it might feel oppressively hot in the warmer months. It does have some vents, I haven’t bothered to see if they are adjustable. And maybe you can remove some of the padding in liner also? I haven’t played around with it much because it’s out of the box it’s doing what I wanted for my purposes and much more.

Complete Buying Guide for Best Full Face Mountain Bike Helmet
Essential Factors We Consider
When selecting the best full face mountain bike helmet, we prioritize safety certifications like ASTM and CPSC, as these are non-negotiable for downhill and aggressive trail riding. Beyond safety, we look at the helmet’s construction materials, typically a combination of polycarbonate or ABS shells with EPS foam liners, for optimal impact absorption. Ventilation is key; we assess the number and placement of vents to ensure adequate airflow and cooling during strenuous efforts. Fit and comfort are also paramount – a helmet should feel snug without being restrictive, and adjustable systems play a big role here. Finally, we consider features like visor adjustability, integrated systems for goggles or cameras, and the ease of use for straps and buckles.
Budget Planning
Full face mountain bike helmets range significantly in price, from budget-friendly options to high-end, feature-rich models. Generally, you can find solid, certified helmets starting around $100-$150, which are excellent for most trail riders and enduro enthusiasts. For those who demand the absolute latest in technology, materials, and extreme downhill protection, prices can climb to $300-$500+. Consider your riding style and the terrain you frequent. If you’re just starting or ride less extreme trails, a mid-range option will likely suffice. For frequent downhill runs or competitive enduro, investing in a premium helmet might be worthwhile.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right full face mountain bike helmet is a critical decision for any rider who values safety and confidence on the trails. Our top picks represent a range of options that excel in protection, comfort, and ventilation. Remember to always measure your head circumference accurately and consult the sizing charts provided by the manufacturer. A well-fitting helmet is not only safer but also more comfortable for long rides. Don’t hesitate to invest in a quality helmet; it’s one of the most important pieces of gear you can own for protecting your head and face.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between a full-face helmet and a trail helmet?
A: A full-face helmet offers complete protection for the entire face, including the chin bar, making it ideal for aggressive riding like downhill and enduro. A trail helmet typically covers the back of the head but leaves the face exposed, offering more ventilation and a lighter feel, suitable for general trail riding and cross-country.
Q: Are full-face mountain bike helmets safe for everyday riding?
A: While full-face helmets offer the highest level of protection, they can be overkill and less comfortable for casual trail rides due to reduced ventilation and added weight. However, for more demanding disciplines like downhill, enduro, or even aggressive trail riding, they are essential for safety.
Q: How do I know if a full-face helmet fits properly?
A: A properly fitting full-face helmet should feel snug all around your head without any pressure points. It shouldn’t move excessively when you shake your head. The chin strap should be snug enough that you can’t easily pull the helmet off your head, but not so tight that it’s uncomfortable. Ensure there’s no excessive gap between your skin and the helmet padding, especially around the cheeks and forehead.
Q: What safety certifications should I look for in a full-face mountain bike helmet?
A: Key safety certifications to look for include ASTM F1952 (for downhill mountain biking), CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission, required in the US), and CE EN1078 (European standard for cycling, skateboarding, and roller skating). Helmets meeting ASTM F1952 are generally considered the most robust for aggressive riding.
Q: How often should I replace my full-face mountain bike helmet?
A: It’s generally recommended to replace your helmet every 3-5 years, even if it hasn’t been in a crash, as materials can degrade over time due to sweat, UV exposure, and general wear. Crucially, if your helmet has been involved in any impact, it must be replaced immediately, as the protective foam may be compromised even if no visible damage is apparent.
Investing in a high-quality full face mountain bike helmet is one of the most important decisions you can make for your safety and confidence on the bike. Whether you’re tackling steep descents, technical singletrack, or just want that extra peace of mind, the right helmet makes all the difference.
