Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I got the FEND Super helmet in black and it has become the helmet I actually use every ride. I use Citi Bikes around NYC and this lives in my bag now. It folds down small enough that I can toss it in my backpack and forget about it until I need it. No more carrying a helmet attached to my pack or leaving it at my apartment when I wasn’t planning to ride that day. It is just always there when I decide to grab a bike. The folding design is really cool. Open it up, put it on, and go. Even though it folds, it feels solid and well made. The fit dial thing makes it really easy to find the fit so it sits low and secure without hot spots or pressure on my head. Once it is set, I do not have to think about it again. The padding is comfortable and the vents do a good job of keeping me from overheating on longer rides or warmer days. Style wise, it looks clean and simple, not like a bulky road helmet. The matte black works with whatever I am wearing, so I do not feel dorky walking into a café or store with it in my hand. I have actually had a few people ask me about it when I pull it out of my bag and I snap it open (it makes a satisfying snap when it opens). What I like most is that it fixes the main reason I used to skip helmets. Before, I had to decide if I wanted to carry a helmet around all day or ride without one. With this, I do not have to make that choice. It lives in my bag, I barely notice the weight, and I always have a proper commuter helmet ready when I grab a bike. If you ride around the city, use bike share, or just want a helmet that is easy to live with, this folding helmet hits a really nice balance of safety, comfort, and convenience. It has made it a lot easier for me to wear a helmet every single ride, and that alone makes it worth it.”
Customer Review: “Protip: Order one size up as the sides of these seem to run narrow, as they’re optimized for portability. The company has a helmet guarantee and was happy to exchange the helmets for me w/ comped shipping fees. Amazon doesn’t have a category to return or exchange for fitment issues, but you can contact the vendor directly and avoid tarnishing their return metrics, ha. The product and company seems to be new, as most if not all of the current reviews have a Vine attribution. I pulled the trigger despite it being an expensive $130 helmet, and have no regrets. This helmet looks, feels, and even sounds great! It has a nice snap+click feel and sound when expanding so you know it’s tightly locked when expanded. Definitely a crowd pleaser! Exterior of helmet is hard plastic with two inserts for lights, inside has typical styrofoam protection. The light attachment (front and rear) operation are simple to use, and easy to detach. You can hold it down for 1+ seconds to turn it on. Once on you can single tap the light to switch flash modes, such as: constant, strobe, fade. Must take helmet off in order to see that mode it’s on, but I’m confident to just hold the button while riding to know that it’s on when going through dark tunnels with cars. It also fades in and out to when plugged in, to indicate it is charging, which is nice. Note that you must use a 5v type-c or the supplied type-a to type-c connector to charge the lights. They’re secure and snug, and detachable by wiggling and pulling, or pushing outwards from the inside of the helmet. My only two nits with this helmet is the initial issue with size, if you have a wide head, I’m worried large may not be big enough. The other nit is that it utilizes a “dumb” type-c port, meaning that you must use the supplied USB type-a to type-c conversion cable, as it does not support PD over USB-C, but only 5v. It would not work with any usb-c PD charger (e.g. a macbook or samsung). Overall, a great bang for the buck, you can see and feel the looks and quality of a premium $130 helmet from this product. The company has good customer service if you have issues with the helmet and include a helmet guarantee where if you crash with one, you can exchange it for a new replacement, because they claim to prioritize your safety. I hope the American company is or becomes profitable and thrive. I’d like to see future premium additions such as “PD charging support”, chime or BT/app indicator of activated light”, camera attachment, modular peripheral support, etc. Wish I got in on the kickstarter but glad I pulled the trigger. Am now a fan of this product and curious to if others run into similar issues with sizing.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Very high quality, the Medium size fits perfect, typically like black but went with the highly visible White/Reflective Silver for safety, and overall looks wearing it while riding my e-bike isn’t that bad. Love that it collapses 50% so I can stash it better in a carry bag when not in use, appreciate Amazon listing includes a chart for measuring your head to choose been the Medium & Large size. I have long hair, wear glasses, & usually wear a BT open air headset that also slips around my ears to listen to music while being aware of my surroundings, so the strap can be cumbersome to slip around the ears, but any helmet strap would have the same issues, but having it adjusted ahead of time helps fitting it on when needed.”

Complete Buying Guide for Folding Bike Helmets
Essential Factors We Consider
When choosing the best folding bike helmet, we look at several key aspects. First and foremost is safety: does it meet CPSC (US) or EN1078 (EU) standards? Portability is crucial for folding helmets, so we examine how compact it becomes and how easy it is to fold and unfold. Comfort is also vital for regular use; this includes padding, ventilation, and the fit adjustment system. Finally, durability and overall build quality ensure the helmet will last and perform when you need it most.
Budget Planning
Folding bike helmets can range in price, typically from around $50 to $150 or more. More affordable options, like the CLOSCA models, offer excellent portability and basic safety features. Mid-range helmets often provide better materials, more advanced folding mechanisms, or additional features like integrated lights. Premium options, like the FEND Super Plus, come with integrated lighting and cutting-edge technology, justifying their higher price point. Consider your budget and prioritize the features that are most important to your riding needs.
Final Thoughts
Selecting a folding bike helmet is about finding the right balance for your lifestyle. Whether you prioritize integrated lights for visibility, award-winning design, or simply the most compact fold, there’s a helmet out there for you. Always ensure the helmet is certified for safety and fits you correctly for maximum protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are folding bike helmets as safe as regular helmets?
A: Yes, as long as they meet the required safety standards (like CPSC in the US or EN1078 in Europe). The folding mechanism is engineered to maintain structural integrity and provide the same level of protection as a non-folding helmet when properly locked into its riding position.
Q: How compact do folding bike helmets get?
A: Most folding helmets can reduce their volume by 40-50%, allowing them to fit into a backpack, messenger bag, or even a larger purse. This makes them incredibly convenient for commuters and travelers.
Q: Are folding bike helmets comfortable for long rides?
A: Comfort varies by model, but most reputable folding helmets are designed with good padding and ventilation systems. The fit adjustment dial is also essential for ensuring a snug and comfortable fit, even on longer journeys.
Q: Do folding bike helmets require special care?
A: No special care is typically required beyond standard helmet maintenance. Keep them clean, avoid exposing them to extreme heat for prolonged periods, and always ensure the folding mechanism is securely locked before riding. As with any helmet, replace it after a significant impact or if it shows signs of damage.
Q: What is the lifespan of a folding bike helmet?
A: Like traditional helmets, folding bike helmets generally have a recommended lifespan of 3-5 years from the date of manufacture, or immediately after any significant impact. Wear and tear, UV exposure, and the materials used can degrade over time, reducing their protective capabilities.
Choosing the right folding bike helmet can significantly enhance your cycling experience, especially if you’re a city dweller or frequent traveler. These innovative helmets offer the crucial protection you need without the bulk, making it easier than ever to stay safe on the go. We’ve highlighted some of the top contenders that excel in portability, safety, and user-friendly design.
