Customer Reviews
Customer Review: This is a truly great scooter – the best peadal scooter you can buy – by far! Much safer than small wheel scooters that are VERY dangerous to use outdoors. This has pneumatic tires and can be ridden off-road on grass which means it is also great on rough sidewalks. It is also very fast. I am 165 lbs., 5 ft 10 in tall and can ride no problem, it is very sturdy. Kids also love riding it.I don’t understand the complaint about hurting ankles, these are rubber caps that come with it to out on the rear axles to protect you, then you just learn quickly how to pedal without striking the scooter.Brakes work well but must be carefully set up or won’t work. You need to read instructions and know how to adjust brakes or watch a YouTube video. There is no other scooter in the market in this class anymore. This is the kind they had when I was a child, but even better! I’m a mechanical engineer and I seriously approve of the design. If you have a bike, get one of these too for some variety of exercise and fun! Bought to keep up with my daughter when we took off her training wheels but can still help her over curbs and getting started while on my scooter. Now all the cousins want one too and will get two more for Christmas!
Customer Review: This was a great purchase for my son. Obviously, the manufacturer listened to all of the reviews that complained about the scooter arriving scratched or missing parts. Mine arrived packaged like it was bomb proof. It takes a few minutes to get everything unpacked and ready for assembly. It took me about 30 minutes to get it all together and adjusted. I am very mechanically inclined and have a ton of tools so for me this was nothing, but if you are not as confident you may wish to have someone else assemble it for you. Basically, you put on the handle bars, the wheels, and hook up the brakes and adjust them. The wheels take about 30 seconds each. I had one wheel that had the conventional keeper clips on it, and the other wheel came with plastic keeper bushings. The instructions did not reference this but a little studying and intuition told me that the conventional clips were to be used on the front wheel and the plastic keeper bushings fit into recesses in the rear wheel frame mounting surfaces. Remember that. Adjusting bicycle style brakes can be a real pain but these went pretty good. I suggest squeezing the calipers snug to the rim and taking up as much slack as possible with the cable pinch-bolt that is on the caliper itself first, and then using the adjuster screw at the lever for the final adjustment. My son can stop on a dime now. I am almost 300lbs and I took it for a spin around the cul-de-sac and it worked great. This should last a kid or normal sized adult a lot of years. My son is 6 and he is just big enough to use it. I wouldn’t suggest it for much younger than that. The handle bars adjust up and down about 4 inches or so. Instructions are pretty good and can talk you through most of the assembly. For the price, you cannot get a better machine on the market. Very pleased.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: This is definitely worth the price. Sturdy, well-built and holding up really well with daily use! My big kid is really enjoying this scooter. He’s been able to take it ‘off road’ since the tires are air-filled and practice some fun BMX-style jumps, etc… I’m really impressed with how great it is. I will mention that my mechanically inclined spouse did spend a good half day assembling and adjusting brakes, and the like. So, that part is not for the faint of heart.
Customer Review: I was planning to try to assemble this myself, but my brother happened to be in town on just the right day and put it together for me, including greasing the wheel bearings. He used to be a bike mechanic for quite a few years, so I was fortunate to get free, expert assembly. I had also ordered a kickstand for a 12″ wheel bicycle, but my brother said the axle wasn’t long enough for it. I ended up getting a scooter stand just for storing it upright in the garage, and it’s working great so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H5MZ4PGThis scooter is a lot of fun to ride for both my almost 10 year old son and for me (much older Mom LOL). I’m 5’4″, and we raised the handlebars a bit. He’s about 4’9″. The height works fine for both of us. The brakes are not super strong, even with proper adjustment, but they work.

Customer Review: It’s a fast bike my daughter loves it! She’s ten.The only issue I have is the quality of the bike as far as parts. Pretty cheap like the buttons for the music broke in one day, and the charger port it’s so hard to insert it in and I’m sure that’s why a lot of people says it stopped working. The charger itself is cheap as far as the cord. If they’d update with better material the bike would be worth every dime

Complete Buying Guide for Best Electric Scooter For 12 Year Old Boy
Essential Factors We Consider
When choosing the best scooter for a 12-year-old boy, we look beyond just the electric motor (or lack thereof). Safety features are paramount. This includes reliable brakes – both foot and hand brakes are preferable – and a stable deck for balance. We also consider the tire type; air-filled tires offer a smoother ride over bumps, which is great for comfort and can handle slightly rougher surfaces than solid tires. Durability is key; a 12-year-old can be rough on gear, so a robust frame and quality components are essential. For electric models, we check the speed and range to ensure they’re appropriate and not overly powerful for a young rider. Ease of use, like simple folding mechanisms and adjustable handlebars, also plays a significant role in a positive experience. For those looking for non-electric options, think about how it complements other gear, like perhaps a lightweight bike rack if they’re also into cycling.
Budget Planning
Electric scooters for kids can range significantly in price, from around $100 for basic kick scooters with fun features, up to $300-$500 or more for electric models with better performance and durability. Non-electric scooters, especially those with air-filled tires and BMX-style features, often fall in the $80-$150 range, offering excellent value. When budgeting, consider the child’s age and how long they are likely to use the scooter. Investing in a slightly more durable or feature-rich model might offer better longevity and fewer replacement costs down the line. Don’t forget to factor in potential costs for safety gear like helmets and pads, which are crucial for any rider. If you are also considering other wheeled transport, check out our guide on the best electric bikes for city commuting which offers a different, but related, range of options.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, the best scooter for a 12-year-old boy depends on his preferences and your priorities. If safety and a smooth ride on varied terrain are top concerns, models with air-filled tires and good braking systems, like the Mongoose options, are excellent. For a more exciting, electric experience, the Aosom Electric Dirt Bike offers thrill, though it’s best suited for older or more experienced young riders and requires extra caution. Regardless of the choice, ensure the rider always wears appropriate safety gear, including a helmet. For rides in less-than-ideal weather, consider looking into waterproof cycling gear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the safest type of scooter for a 12-year-old?
A: Generally, scooters with reliable hand brakes and wider decks for better stability are considered safer. For electric scooters, lower top speeds and parental controls can also enhance safety. Models with air-filled tires tend to offer a smoother, more controlled ride on varied surfaces compared to solid tires.
Q: How fast should an electric scooter for a 12-year-old go?
A: For a 12-year-old, an electric scooter with a top speed between 8-15 mph is typically appropriate. Speeds significantly higher than this can be challenging to control and increase risk. Always prioritize scooters with adjustable speed settings or those that are naturally limited to safer speeds.
Q: Do 12-year-olds need helmets for scooters?
A: Absolutely. Helmets are crucial for protecting against head injuries. It’s recommended that any child riding a scooter, regardless of age or type, wears a certified helmet and other protective gear like knee and elbow pads.
Q: What’s the difference between a kick scooter and an electric scooter for a 12-year-old?
A: A kick scooter requires the rider to push off the ground to gain momentum, offering a good workout and teaching balance. An electric scooter has a motor and battery, allowing for powered riding with a throttle, which is more about cruising and less physically demanding. For a 12-year-old, both can be great, depending on whether the focus is on exercise or ease of travel.
Q: Can a 12-year-old ride an adult electric scooter?
A: While some adult electric scooters might be adjustable enough, they often have higher speeds and more powerful motors that can be too much for a 12-year-old. It’s generally safer and more appropriate to choose a scooter specifically designed for kids or teens, which will have features tailored to their needs and abilities.
Choosing the right scooter for a 12-year-old boy involves balancing fun, safety, and practicality. Whether you opt for a robust kick scooter that encourages active play or an electric model for a more effortless ride, there are excellent options available. Take into account the terrain they’ll be riding on, their experience level, and your budget to make the best choice. Happy riding!
