Customer Reviews

Customer Review:
“I literally have zero complaints. This backpack is perfect for trail riding. There is a belly strap that keep it attached to you when going over hills/jump/whatever. It’s very light weight and has plenty of room for my keys, phone, several water bottles, MRE’s and whatever else you need to carry. It’s super easy to use and the zippers are quite strong. Have ridden several miles of rough terrain and it’s holding up well. I highly recommend this for anyone on a trail whether walking, biking or dirt biking. We will be ordering more for the kids. this one does not have a water bladder, which I’m cool with. I prefer water bottles.”

Customer Review:
“Good quality backpack. I’m happy to have found a better quality backpack to replace the one with broken zippers that was around the same size and fit that I was attached to. I like its aero dynamic design and smaller than a regular backpack size for traveling around town on my bike or foot. ☺️”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review:
“While there isn’t a huge volume capacity, the side and rear pouches, along with the small capacity hip belt pockets, made this a very versatile day pack on my recent trip to Egypt. I felt it held everything I might need for a day of exploring, without being cumbersome and awkward. 1st aid kit, water bottles, an umbrella, extra clothes, gadgets, rain shell, and more all fit nicely into this unit. It’s compression straps were very handy and well placed. It rode comfortably on the shoulders with it heavily loaded down. One detail that I would change: the exterior zipper on the rear pouch is one directional, and not as convenient for access as a two directional one. Pretty minor issue. It held up really well for the 24 days of heavy use it just received. I felt it a massive bargain, especially when I thought I was getting a last minute “beater” pack that would fall apart fairly quickly. That was definitely NOT the case. I really like this pack. I worked in the backcountry of Glacier NP for decades, have used all manner of packs, day use, work, expedition. This rates very highly as one of the most versatile, hardy, smaller packs that I have ever used. I like it. I think you will, too.”

Customer Review:
“I used this to take on a flight and walk around to site see in Europe in the winter. It held up well. We had a lot of rain and nothing inside ever got wet. Had a lot of room to carry my wallet, snow hat, neck scarf, gloves, cell phone, cell phone cord, bag of essentials like chap stick, Kleenex, etc. in many choices of pockets and during the flight the straps opened wide enough to carry my neck roll. It is small and cute for my small frame. My husband purchased the black one and it fit him well also. He liked putting his rain coat in his when not in use. We thought they were a good value for the cost.”

  • Durable construction.
Cons:

  • Zipper pulls can be hard to find in low light.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review:
“I’ve had three M.U.L.E.’s stolen from me in the past decade! Picked up this latest model to replace my last stolen one and I’m impressed with all of the updates and upgrades from previous units, with the exception of two minor things: 1) the angle of CamelBak’s new Crux Valve is odd for me. Hard to reach. I’ve read it was to increase water flow to get more water with the same draw. Camelbak claimed the 90-degree angle older valve created flow restriction. For me the old valve is easier to access, so I will likely change it out if those fit this newer, thicker hose. 2) I wish ALL the zipper pulls were a different color than the rest of the material (the bladder compartment zipper pull is blue [i.e.-water]), the rest are black. Black pulls on black fabric are hard to locate (especially in low light) for old guys like me. I’ll likely change them out too with something brighter. Outside of that, I love the enormous storage capacity of this pack. I often hike full-day, +10-mile trails or use it on all-day flyfishing excursions, and having access to 3.0 L of water is essential. I also love the newly-designed Air Director that keeps air flowing up and down your spine and lower back to help prevent excessive sweating and hydration loss. For an idea as to how much this pack can hold, my MULE typically contains: – 1 Epic Wipe – small anti-septic towelettes – clip-on red strobe – emergency pancho – micro flashlight – spf – pocket knife – small first aid kit – ultra-light pack jacket – 1 pair extra socks – microfiber pack towel – lunch or snacks – small power bank – charge cord – pill bottle with Advil, Imodium, Benedryl – eye drops – keys – wallet – matches or lighter – 1 WetFire tablet – and I now have Tile hidden in it to track these darn theives! Overall, this is the best MULE I’ve ever owned. Worth every penny.”

Customer Review:
“I’ve had 6 different packs over my life time. This one is my favorite by far. Great amount of storage and very light weight. The magnetic clip works really well and very handy. Can accommodate my milspec hose.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review:
“Hi, ok so honestly speaking, i never write reviews but I’ve enjoyed using the RB a lot that i thought i would be nice and write a thought out review. i rate the Rider Bag (RB) an honest five stars and i truly mean it. It has a lot of space inside so i could put all my notebooks, laptop and clothes at the same time for college (being that I’m a full time college student), its actually comfortable to wear for riding on my motor scooter and walking great distances with comfort for the lower back, the sides of the spine, shoulders and across the chest it has this latch that once you put it in place, it holds the bag to a position comfortable to you and won’t move and you don’t have to worry about the side-straps coming off your shoulder which i use every time i ride my scooter around Miami. I know that sometimes i was skeptic of a review but for my review of the RB i want to assure you that i am in no way affiliated or sponsored by the Rider Bag company. I’m a regular person just like you who wanted to look for a gear or decals that made me more visible at night and after considering putting reflective stickers over my scooter and helmet, i had come across this ad for the rider bag and it was a perfect idea to purchase. It really does have space, it shines because of the reflective feature, it’s actually comfortable to walk and ride with, and you have two compartments to place your bottle on either side of the bag and i find that quite useful because i drink from my personal flask every day with either cafe con leche, water, or juice and the RB offers a near place to hold it unlike the other bag i had before this one. As far as how it looks, it’s quite stylish when it comes to being implemented with safety features (neon green color and reflectors for visibility) i truly love that they brought this to the market and I’ve even received compliments for the bag when worn. I only say that because I haven’t ever felt embarrassed to wear something as flashy as a Neon green bag and i know that maybe that possible worry would come across your mind. One thing however, an improvement to the bag would be that the straps on the bag is thin so if you apply pressure in a certain angle to the side straps, it would most likely fall out but it could easily be fixed by watching the video above of “how to adjust the straps” and you’re golden. The price is steep but then again, a jansport bag cost like $60 and this bag would actually come in handy for you just as it does for me. I hope this helps you all in your consideration and stay safe everyone ☺️”

Customer Review:
“I have used this backpack daily now for almost 2 years. It’s very noticeable for a rider or walker in view of cars. I love the extra straps and think it’s very comfortable. Good space for many items and durable. Well worth the money!”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Cycling Backpacks

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing a cycling backpack, we look at several key elements to ensure it’s perfect for your ride. First, comfort is paramount – the straps need to be padded and adjustable, and the back panel should offer good ventilation to prevent overheating. Durability is another big one; we want a backpack made from robust materials that can withstand the elements and regular use, like water-resistant fabrics. Functionality comes next, with considerations for capacity, the number and type of pockets, and specialized features like helmet holders or hydration compatibility. Finally, visibility is crucial, especially for road cyclists, so reflective elements are a big plus.

Budget Planning

Cycling backpacks can range significantly in price, from budget-friendly options to premium models. For under $50, you can find solid, basic backpacks suitable for shorter rides or casual commuting. Mid-range options, typically between $50 and $100, offer more advanced features, better materials, and enhanced comfort for longer rides and more demanding use. High-end packs, often exceeding $100, usually boast superior construction, advanced ergonomics, and specialized technologies for serious cyclists and racers. When planning your budget, consider how often you’ll use the backpack and what kind of riding you do to get the best value.

Final Thoughts

Selecting the right cycling backpack is about finding that perfect blend of comfort, utility, and durability that matches your riding style. Whether you’re a daily commuter needing to carry your laptop and lunch, or a trail rider looking for a hydration-compatible pack for long adventures, there’s a backpack out there for you. We hope this guide has helped you narrow down your choices and find a pack that will enhance your cycling experience for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much capacity do I need in a cycling backpack?

A: The capacity you need depends on your riding. For short commutes or single-day rides, 10-20 liters is usually sufficient. For longer day trips, multi-day tours, or if you pack a lot of gear (like extra clothing, tools, and food), consider 20-30 liters or more. Many cycling backpacks also feature hydration reservoirs, which add to their carrying capacity.

Q: Are waterproof cycling backpacks really necessary?

A: If you ride in areas with unpredictable weather or frequently encounter rain, a waterproof or highly water-resistant cycling backpack is highly recommended. It will protect your electronics, snacks, and spare clothing from getting wet. Even if you don’t ride in the rain often, a water-resistant bag is good for protecting your belongings from sweat and accidental spills.

Q: What is the most important feature in a cycling backpack?

A: While many features are important, comfort and fit are often considered the most critical. A backpack that fits well and doesn’t chafe or bounce around will make a huge difference in your riding experience. Good ventilation is also key, especially for strenuous rides, to keep you from overheating.

Q: Should I choose a backpack with a hydration system?

A: If you plan on long rides, especially in warm weather, a hydration system is a game-changer. It allows you to drink on the go without stopping, helping you stay hydrated more effectively. Many cycling backpacks are designed with dedicated compartments and ports for hydration bladders.

Q: How do I clean my cycling backpack?

A: Most cycling backpacks can be cleaned by hand using mild soap and cool water. Gently scrub the fabric, paying attention to any soiled areas. Rinse thoroughly and allow the backpack to air dry completely, preferably in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid machine washing or using harsh detergents, as this can damage the materials and coatings.

Finding the perfect cycling backpack can significantly improve your ride, making it more comfortable and convenient. Whether you’re a daily commuter, a weekend warrior, or an adventure cyclist, investing in a quality backpack is a decision you won’t regret. Explore the options, consider your needs, and get ready to hit the road or trails with your essentials packed securely and comfortably!
