Customer Reviews

“So I’m rolling the 1000 watt set up. If you don’t know watts are basically horsepower and in my case horsepower for custom scooters. That many watts is going to be more than the average hub motor can handle but if your hub can handle around 800 watts and more this set up is the one. The ESC ( speed controller) can use pretty much any voltage with little effort just by pushing buttons. I run a 60 volt battery setup with this and I have zero issues. I’m 230 pounds and this set up takes me up most hills, goes 40mph (no governor) plus with stable acceleration and virtually zero overheating concerns. I would definitely run sensored only because you have more display options on your throttle display but it’s not required. The ESC comes with almost everything you could want such as linear & Regen braking , cruise control, push button on/off and more. The only complaint about the ESC is a complaint I have with them all and that’s there is no 12volt power supply you will have to purchase separate voltage step down for whatever lights you choose. The throttle and display are not the coolest looking set up but they have everything you need. The wiring is brainless for connection to ESC, built in speedometer that allows you to set tire size for accuracy (must run sensored for this option) , voltage display and battery life, optional 3or5 speed gear selection wth tons more programmable options done with ease and the throttle lever is easy and comfortable to use. This set up uses pretty standard connectors that I cut off and toss but they should work for a huge variety of applications. This is a well made set up that I will definitely be purchasing more of in the future and highly recommend you to as well. Remember if your scooter won’t drag you uphill there is no point in having it.”

“This controller is awesome it has everything you need to even make your own scooter and his universal so that’s a big plus”

Complete Buying Guide for Electric Bike For 800

Essential Factors We Consider

When searching for the best electric bike for 800, several key factors determine performance and satisfaction. First, assess the motor power—models under this budget typically offer 250W to 1000W, with higher wattage delivering better hill-climbing ability. Battery capacity (measured in amp-hours) directly impacts range, so look for at least 36V systems with 10Ah+ ratings. Frame material matters too; aluminum offers a lighter, rust-resistant option compared to steel. Lastly, consider whether you need pedal-assist only or throttle-enabled models for greater convenience.

Budget Planning

Sticking to an $800 limit requires smart choices. Prioritize reliable brands with proven track records and avoid cutting corners on critical components like brakes or batteries. While some bikes include accessories like lights or racks, others may require separate purchases. Factor in potential maintenance costs and warranty coverage—these can save money long-term. Many excellent options exist right at or slightly below $800, especially when shopping seasonal sales or certified refurbished units.

Final Thoughts

The market for affordable e-bikes continues to grow, offering surprising quality within strict budgets. From powerful superbikes to versatile controllers, each product on our list proves that you don’t need to spend thousands to enjoy the benefits of electric assistance. Focus on your primary use case—commuting, recreation, or off-road exploration—and choose accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are electric bikes under $800 worth buying?

A: Absolutely. Many models deliver reliable performance, decent range, and essential safety features comparable to more expensive bikes. Just ensure you check reviews and verify compatibility with your intended use.

Q: What’s the difference between a 36V and 48V electric bike?

A: Higher voltage (like 48V) generally means more power, faster acceleration, and potentially longer range. However, it also requires compatible components and may have stricter local regulations regarding speed limits.

Q: Can I convert my regular bike into an e-bike for under $800?

A: Yes! With kits containing motors, batteries, and controllers, conversion is possible within budget. Models like the Winsgmoto or Labwork controllers make DIY upgrades accessible and cost-effective.

Q: How far can an electric bike go on one charge?

A: Range varies widely—typically 15 to 40 miles depending on rider weight, terrain, assist level, and battery size. Bigger batteries (10Ah+) generally extend distance significantly.

Q: Do I need a license to ride an electric bike under $800?

A: Regulations vary by region. In most areas, e-bikes under 20 mph with pedal-assist and 750W motors don’t require licensing. Always check local laws before riding.
